Climate
Jaipur possesses moderate to hot climate throughout
the year. In summer months (March-June), the minimum
temperature is around 26°C and can reach 46°C as
maximum. In winters (November -February), the maximum
temperature is 22°C and 8°C as minimum.
In late June comes the monsoon which provides great
relief. It is preceded by dust and thunderstorms while
the post-monsoon season in September is followed by
another heat wave. The best months to visit Jaipur are
from October to February. In summer one should wear
light cottons and woolens in winter.
Shopping
Jaipur is a shopper's paradise. Look for jewelry,
miniature paintings, block prints and tie-and-dye
textiles, carpets, brassware, blue pottery, leather
footwear, lacquer and filigree work. Various sites for
shopping are Jauhari Bazar, Bapu Bazar and Nehur Bazar,
M.I. Road, Tripolia Bazar and Chaura Rasta.
Cuisine
Try local delicacies like Dal-Bati-Choorma, made of
butter, cereal, and sweetened bread pudding. Most
hotels serve Indian and continental meals. Typical
Rajasthani vegetarian meal is a delight.
Festivals
Festivals worth witnessing in Jaipur are Teej Festival
and the Elephant march. The Teej festival is annually
held during the arrival of monsoon period which falls
between July and August. A single festive day is
mainly celebrated by married women who pray to the
Goddess Parvati for their happy marriage life. The
festivities involve singing and dancing to praise
Parvati. On this occasion women are allowed to enjoy
themselves, signing, dancing, feasting, and dressing
in their most beautiful. In Jaipur city, the idol of
Parvati will be parade around, allowing the public to
worship the Goddess Parvati.
Another colorful festival in Jaipur is the Elephant
Festival. Annually held in March, the festival is one
of the most colorful with the grand parades of
elephants decorated with bright colors and rich
jewelry. There is also a completion find the most
beautifully decorated elephant. Elephant polo is also
an attraction.
